HA NOI – Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long praised the work of Viet Nam National Codex Committee, the committee controlling food safety standards, in the capital city yesterday.
Long said that over the past three years, the committee had worked with relevant ministries, departments and agencies to build a number of international Codex standards and recommendations on food labelling and listing ingredients.
In addition, it has also set maximum limits of Melamine in liquid milk - and set limits for toxic substances in animal husbandry, cultivation and drinking water.
Some of the committee's recommendations have been added to international standards, such as the histamine and nitrogen levels in fish sauce, and the cadmium and arsenic level in rice,
Members thought, in the term 2012-14, the committee should establish more technical departments to examine veterinary drug residues in food and in animal feed. – VNS
