HCM CITY — Samples taken from fish on sale in Binh Dien Market in HCM City have tested positive for trifluralin – a type of antibiotic which was banned in 2010.
The HCM City Fisheries Quality Assurance and Aquatic Resources Protection Department has tested 170 samples so far this year, and four were found to contain traces of the antibiotic.
Trifluralin was a poisonous substance which could cause cancer, deformities and mental diseases, said Tran Dinh Vinh, director of the department.
He added that their was no need for public concern. — VNS
