HA NOI — Viet Nam was hopeful that the World Health Organisation (WHO) would continue to assist the country with improving capacity in the health sector, particularly in preventing infectious and non-infectious diseases, and improving food hygiene and safety.
The statement was made by Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh yesterday while receiving newly-appointed Head Representative of WHO to Viet Nam Takeshi Kasai.
Minh applauded WHO's assistance to Viet Nam over the past 36 years and proposed the organisation continue working closely with other United Nations agencies in Viet Nam within the framework of the One UN plan, an initiative to improve co-ordination among UN organisations.
Kasai stressed that Viet Nam was among the countries to enjoy priority co-operation from the WHO and vowed to work closely with the Vietnamese Government to implement the Viet Nam-WHO co-operation programme during the 2012-13 period. — VNS
