HA NOI — The governments of China and Viet Nam yesterday signed an agreement and a protocol for the construction of Bac Luan (Beilun) Bridge 2.
The bridge will run across the Beilun River on the border of the two countries, connecting northern Quang Ninh Province's Mong Cai City and Dongxing City of China's Guangxi Province.
The 618-metre long bridge is expected to be started this year and completed by 2013. Viet Nam will be in charge of building more than 150 meters.
After completed, the bridge will help improve the transport system while promoting trade exchange and economic co-operation between the two provinces, as well as the two countries.
At the ceremony, both ministries of transport also discussed the management of licences for international road transport and the use of China-ASEAN Investment Co-operation Fund to implement traffic infrastructure projects. The projects would promote economic co-operation between the two countries.
Also, the two ministries agreed that the Civil Aviation Administration of China and that of Viet Nam should consider an amendment to the Viet Nam – China Aviation Agreement in order to meet the increasing travel and cargo exchange between the two countries. — VNS
