Young people honoured for contributions to national construction, defence

HA NOI – Ten young Vietnamese were honoured yesterday for their significant contributions last year to national construction and defence by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee and Viet Nam Young Talent Support Fund.

The annual event aims to encourage and honour young people with excellent achievements in studies, scientific research, business, defence, security, sports, arts, and social activities. Since 1996, 150 people have received this special honour.

This year's honours went to: Nguyen Huy Hoang, 19 (for his studies); Associate Professor Pham Hoang Hiep and Vu Trong Thu, 30 (for scientific research); Pham Duc Thach, 36 (for business); Nguyen Si Binh, 32, (for national defence); Tran Trung Kien, 34, (for security); and A Yung, 27, (for social activities). Pencak silat athlete Nguyen Thi Yen,21, singer Le Cat Trong Ly, 25, and pianist Hoang Pham Tra Mi, 15, were also honoured.

In his address at the event, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan praised their efforts and achievements and asked them to continue to develop their abilities and strive for more successes to contribute to the cause of national construction and defence.

Another 10 youngsters from different fields were awarded with prospective prizes. – VNS
