HA NOI – High school student Trinh Hoang Nam yesterday won first prize in the Viet Nam 2011-2012 English Eloquence contest which was held by University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations (Cambridge ESOL) in HCM City.
More than 2,000 students from across the country participated in the contest. In the final round, Nam triumphed over eight competitors to be awarded with a three-month English course at PSB Academy Singapore, an HP laptop and English study documents published by Cambridge.
Nam will travel to the United Kingdom in July to compete in the final round against other nine ASEAN students who won first prize in their respective countries.
"The contest has been held three times. We hope to create the best possible conditions for Vietnamese talents to develop and to compete against peers in the region," said Pham Hoang Uyen, director of Cambridge ESOL in Southeast Asia.
The contest tests students' English skills under the First Certificate programme which includes listening, reading, speaking and writing. – VNS
