HCM CITY — Rohto-Mentholatum Viet Nam Company's New V. Rohto brand in collaboration with HCM City Eye Hospital and Central Eye Hospital will organise a School Eye Care 2012 programme to treat more than 30,000 high school pupils nationwide from March 5 to April 15.

Pupils in HCM City, Can Tho, Da Nang, Hai Phong and Ha Noi will receive free treatments this year.

The programme is an annual activity for community eye-care which New V.Rohto has implemented over the past seven years.

According to figures from the School Eye Care 2011 programme, 55 per cent of more than 30,000 pupils in the country had eye disorders, of which 49 per cent were short-sighted and 5 per cent long-sighted.

Up to 50 per cent of urban pupils have eye disorders, while the figure is 10-15 per cent in rural areas. Three million pupils aged 5-16 need to wear glasses. — VNS
