Update: February, 24/2012 - 11:19

THAI BINH – Australian non-profit organisation the Fred Hollows Foundation (FHF) will fund VND19 billion (US$904,000) to help northern Thai Binh Province develop a comprehensive eye care system over the next three years.

The programme is part of a project launched in 2009 that aims to provide facilities, equipment and capacity building for health workers in 11 provinces across Viet Nam.

This year, FHF also committed to fund US$3.3 million to help Viet Nam with blindness prevention, as part of efforts to realise international vision commitments to rid the world of avoidable blindness by 2020.

The FHF organisation was founded in 1992 by eye surgeon Fred Hollows, and focuses on treating and preventing blindness and other vision problems. It operates across the Pacific region, Australia, South and Southeast Asia, and Africa. – VNS
