HA NOI – Doctors at Phuong Chau International Obstetrics Gynecology Hospital in the southern province of Can Tho have successfully completed their first microsurgery on fallopian tube anastomosis by endoscopy.
It was reported that the patient undergoing the operation had removed her fallopian tube five years ago to avoid having more children due to weak finances, which has since improved, causing her to change her mind.
According to Dr Nguyen Duy Linh, chief surgeon, the patient was recovering well and stood a good chance of bearing more children.
He said that this kind of surgery has been successfully conducted at big hospitals in major cities such as Ha Noi and HCM City, but that this was the first one in the region thanks to support from HCM doctors.
It is expected to reduce overload at big hospitals and help people in need save time and money as they do not have to undergo long trips to the major cities.
Linh said the successful rate of microsurgery on fallopian tubes stood at about 60-70 per cent, double the amount compared to egg fertilised test-tubes. -- VNS
