Ha Noi — The primary objective of the publicity and education sector in 2012 was to serve the country's socio-economic development and Party building activities, and foster culture as a spiritual foundation of the Vietnamese society, said Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
Speaking at a meeting of key Party Central Committee (PCC) Publicity and Education Commission officials in the capital city yesterday, Trong asked the commission to focus its efforts on implementing resolutions set by the PCC and the Politburo. He specifically noted Resolutions 3 and 4 issued by the PCC, the campaign to follow President Ho Chi Minh's morals, the revision of the country's 1992 Constitution, and the development of education and science.
"The sector should be more pro-active in implementing the Party's resolutions that relate to the work of theory, press, arts and culture, and the development of a contingent of intellectuals," said Trong.
He also ordered the commission to ensure good conditions to carry out assigned missions, including capacity building for its staff.
"Each journalist, writer, educator and scientist should be made of good political stuff, be loyal to the people and the Party, and place the national interest above all," Trong added.
Analysing achievements and shortcomings in the work of publicity and education in 2010, Le Hong Anh, Politburo member and permanent member of the Party Central Committee Secretariat, called on the sector to pay more attention to educating cadres, party members and people in politics and ideology, particularly the youth, students and pupils. He also urged renovations in the work of communication and education and management while enhancing the role of the mass media in implementing the political tasks. — VNS
