Update: January, 14/2012 - 09:34

HA NOI — National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung was full of praise for Ha Noi's achievements and urged city leaders to exert even greater efforts during a meeting yesterday where he offered them and city dwellers New Year wishes.

He praised the capital city for its socio-economic achievements, its guaranteed security and national defence, as well as its social order throughout the last year.

Hung said he wanted the city to maintain its achievements and further bring them into play while improving the living standards of all.

He asked city leaders to be determined and exert their best efforts to successfully implement the Resolution of the 11th National Party Congress 2011, the city's socio-economic goals for this year, amendments and completion of the 1992 Constitution among others.

Emphasising common difficulties caused by a complicated political and economic situation throughout the world in the past and years to come, the chairman said the capital city had a significant duty.

Ha Noi specifically needed to make development plans and implement them with due attention given to developing infrastructure.

The city should attach special attention to developing the outskirts and rural areas, decreasing the gap between rich and poor, speeding up intellectual-based economy models, ensuring the promotion of advantages as a central location in politics and economy of the whole country and making the best of support from within and outside the country, the chairman said.

He also drew city leaders' attention to developing education, science and technology, sports and the health of residents and tourists.

The Ha Noi City Party Committee Secretary, Pham Quang Nghi, said the capital city had well implemented three fundamental goals of inflation control, macro economy stability and social welfare policy, despite difficulties.

Total Gross Domestic Product in the city increased 10.13 per cent in 2011, about 1.76 per cent of the national average figure.

Earlier, chairman Hung visited and offered gifts to two war veteran families in Ha Dong district. — VNS
