Kidnap victims rescued in HCM City

HCM CITY (VNS)- A 28 year-old man who allegedly took three people hostage at a HCM City kindergarten in Tan Binh District was arrested this morning after nearly a two hour stand-off, said the city's police force.

The hostages, a teacher and two three-year-old children, are reported to be safe, although one child has slight injuries to his face and foot.

The kidnapper was named as Cao Quoc Huy from the central province of Quang Ngai.

He allegedly entered the kindergarten at 9am and broke into the headmaster's office, threatening her with a knife.

After failing to take the headmaster hostage, he ran to a nearby classroom where he found his three victims.

Hundreds of policemen and traffic wardens arrived at the scene and quickly surrounded the classroom.

Roads and streets around the kindergarten were also blocked off.

The first child was rescued at 10.30, and five minutes later, the other two hostages were also saved and Huy was put under arrest.
