Two charged with hunting langur

DONG NAI (VNS) – Police in the southern province of Dong Nai yesterday arrested Phan Van Thuan Anh and Huynh Van Cu for illegally hunting langurs in Cat Tien National Park.

The two suspects, from Tan Phu District, will be prosecuted following an initial investigation that showed the pair used a hand-made gun for hunting the rare animals. They are alleged to have shot a 2.7kg langur and sold it for cooking.

While the type of langur has not been identified, two rare species in the area have been listed in Viet Nam's Red Book of rare and protected species – a brown-legged one (Pygathrix Nemaeus) and a black-legged (Pygathrix nigripes). – VNS
