HA NOI – (VNS) The Ministry of Health's Drug Administration Department has ordered hospitals, healthcare centres across the country to stop prescribing medicine containing Buflomedil due to its dangerous side effects.

Pharmacy importers have been asked to stop selling the medicines and discontinue import containing the harmful substance.

Domestic manufacturers must also stop producing medicine containing the drug.

The decision is based on recommendations from the Health Ministry's Committee for Pharmacy Assessment, which said the Buflomedil drugs caused serious effects on the cardiovascular and nervous systems potentially causing death.

Products containing Buflomedil were used to treat chronic circulatory problems in the brain, eyes and inner ears, as well as blood vessel accidents and brain injuries.

The total of 42 drugs to be prohibited in Viet Nam include Buflomedil hydrochloride 150, Buflomedil 1%, Cefzid-150mg, Vincodil and Buflow 150 mg. – VNS
