Rise in Ngai Dang HIV cases confuses experts

BEN TRE (VNS)— Fourteen more people have tested positive to the HIV/AIDS virus in Ngai Dang Commune, Mo Cay Nam District, in the southern province of Ben Tre this year, the highest number for the commune so far.

Experts from the Viet Nam Administration of HIV/AIDS Control and HCM City-based Pasteur Institute have said they do not know the reason for the high number of AIDS cases in the commune.

All of the new patients are farmers. A total of 17 people in the commune are HIV positive, and eight of them have full-blown AIDS.

Eleven of them have been treated with anti-retroviral drugs. — VNS
