Dien Bien Police arrests explosive thieves

DIEN BIEN – (VNS) Three thieves have been arrested by police in the northern province of Dien Bien after they stole 96 kg of explosives.

The material was reported missing late last month by workers at the Dai Duong Private Enterprise in Minh Thang 2 Stone Mine, Tuan Giao District.

Police launched an immediate investigation and acquired evidence leading to the arrest of local residents Ca Van Chu, 48, Lo Van Xuan, 27 and Lo Van Hau, 32. The three men admitted the theft, and revealed that they sold the stolen explosives to buyers who use explosions to catch fish. This method of fishing is illegal under Vietnamese law, as is trading explosives.

31.2 kg of the stolen material was collected from the buyers and police are continuing in their efforts to recover the rest. – VNS
