Police bust drug trafficking ring

NGHE AN — Police in central Nghe An Province yesterday confiscated 40 cakes of heroin and arrested several suspected drug traffickers during a continuing investigation of what authorities said was the biggest ever drug trafficking ring in the province.

The day before, the provincial Drug Crime Investigation Police Force caught Vu Duc Manh, 48, and Nguyen Thi Nhung, 36, red-handed with 30 cakes of heroin and VND19 million (US$900) at Vinh City station, where Manh was waiting for a train to HCM City.

Further investigations led to the arrest of three others yesterday, making the total of confiscated heroin a record high 70 cakes. Police also seized $345,000, both in Viet Nam dong and US dollars, 12 taels of gold and a car. — VNS
