Genitally malformed kids to get free surgeries

HA NOI – Twenty six toddlers who suffer from genital malformations will undergo free reconstructive operations this month, says Tran Mai Anh, founder of the Thien Nhan Journey programme.

Italian doctor Roberto DeCastro from Bologna and American Vietnamese Tue Dinh, from the Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas, will perform surgeries at the National Hospital of Pediatrics.

Tran Mai Anh and Asia Injury Prevention Foundation's president Greig Craft organised the free surgeries.

The doctors are set to examine 80 new patients along with re-examing 17 who had surgeries in November, 2011 while in total performing 26 operations, including 5 phalloplasties. Last year, the Italian doctors examined 120 children with genital malformations, in co-operation with doctors from the Vietnam National Hospital of Paediatrics.

According to the organisers, a music night will be organised in HCM City following the surgeries to spread a message of hope at the Military Theatre on June 23.--VNS
