Guidelines issued for treating strange illness

HA NOI — New guidelines for treating the mysterious skin disease in Quang Ngai Province were issued by the Ministry of Health last Friday, replacing the ones from January.

The guidelines help classify the disease based on the skin's injury level and level of increased SGOT and SGPT enzymes in the blood. The elderly, children, pregnant women, patients with chronic diseases and malnutrition are at high risk of the disease developing faster and more serious.

The ministry also recommended that people maintain personal and environmental hygiene, avoid contact with chemicals, and increasingly wash their hands and feet with clean water for the disease prevention.

As of yesterday, a total 178 people have suffered the disease in the province, including 19 fatalities. — VNS
