A delegation from the EU Council's Asia-Oceania Working Party (COASI) is scheduled to visit Việt Nam from April 24 to 26.

Member of the Australian House of Representatives Kevin Hogan pointed to the elevation of Việt Nam-Australia ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during the visit, describing it as a foundation for the two nations to further develop cooperation, especially in the fields of trade, investment, education and tourism.

Deputy Minister of National Defence Sen. Lieut. Gen Hoàng Xuân Chiến acknowledged the role played by Polish defence attachés in Việt Nam, who have worked closely with Vietnamese military units to foster mutual understanding and discuss cooperation in the fields of training, delegation exchange, military medicine, air force and defence industry in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on defence cooperation signed in 2010.

The event was part of a series of activities in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Điện Biên Phủ Victory (May 7, 1954 - 2024) that directly led to the signing of the Geneva Accords on ending the war and restoring peace in Indochina.

Numerous book titles about the land, culture, prominent historical figures and personalities of Điện Biên province were also published on this occasion.

Giang briefed the delegation on the activities of the Vietnamese Students’ Association in New York and asked the Hồ Chí Minh Communist Youth Union (HCMCYU) Central Committee to enhance connections with the association, thereby encouraging Vietnamese youth in the US in general, and New York in particular, to actively contribute to the homeland's socio-economic development.

The two sides discussed the signing of a new agreement in education and training cooperation, expansion of activities of the Puskin Institute of Russian Language (HFIRL) in Việt Nam, university alliance between Việt Nam and Russia and research collaboration. 

The PM held that the Điện Biên Phủ Victory is the success of the nation's mettle, brainpower and revolutionary heroism, as well as the wise, creative, and ingenious leadership and strategic direction of the Party and President Hồ Chí Minh, and the strategic talent of General Võ Nguyên Giáp – the commander of the battle.

The PM and other officials offered incense in commemoration of General Võ Nguyên Giáp, Commander-in-chief of the Việt Nam People’s Army and also the direct commander of the Điện Biên Phủ Campaign, and the soldiers who laid down their lives for the victory.

The Senate President expressed his desire to develop bilateral parliamentary relations, emphasising the need for coordination and mutual support at regional and multilateral inter-parliamentary forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), and the Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership Meeting (ASEP).

The documents must be submitted to the National Assembly (NA) for consideration, allowing the Law on Land 2024 to come into effect in the beginning of July this year, five months earlier than previously scheduled, in January 1, 2025.

Foreign Minister Bùi Thanh Sơn stated that Việt Nam always attaches importance to and wishes to promote cooperation with Spain, the first strategic partner of Việt Nam in the European Union (EU).

Hungary considers Việt Nam a priority partner in its policy of strengthening and expanding relations with Southeast Asian countries, especially in the fields of diplomacy, economy, and parliamentary cooperation

Việt Nam wants to learn from the world's experiences and good practices, including in the development of financial centres, to mobilise resources to overcome the middle-income trap and become a developed country by 2045.

At the meeting with First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee and President of Cuba Miguel Diaz-Canel, Deputy Prime Minister Trần Lưu Quang also conveyed Vietnamese leaders’ invitation to Miguel Diaz-Canel to pay a visit to Việt Nam.

Both sides highlighted parliamentary cooperation as a bright spot in the two countries' overall relationship, adding that the cooperation agreement signed by the two legislatures last June has laid an important foundation to further deepen parliamentary ties.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development must come up with forest fire prevention and control solutions, prevent saltwater intrusion and ensure fresh water supply for daily life and production in the Mekong Delta region, he said.
