HA NOI (VNS)– The Viet Nam National Defence television channel (QPVN) made its official debut yesterday on what would have been President Ho Chi Minh's 123rd birthday.
Defence Minister General Phung Quang Thanh and other senior officials pressed the button to launch the channel at a ceremony which was broadcast live on Viet Nam Television's VTV 1 channel.
Speaking at the event, Minister Thanh described the channel as an official organ of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defence as well as the voice of the Vietnamese armed forces and people.
The channel will help to popularise the building of the people's army and the all-people national defence initiative, he said.
It will also provide viewers with reliable and timely information about the orientations of the Party, State, the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defence, Thanh noted, asking the channel to expand co-operation with other radio and TV channels.
Apart from news and documentaries, the QPVN channel, which is dedicated to the national defence task, will also entertain people with interesting movies and sports programmes.
The channel will air 18.5 hours a day, from 5.30am to midnight, via VCTV, SCTV, HTVC, as well as Viettel's IPTV and Mobile TV services. – VNS
