Company fined for pollution violation

THUA THIEN HUE (VNS)— The People's Committee of central Thua Thien Hue Province fined a company in Phu Bai Industrial Park VND130 million (US$6,200) for violating environmental regulations.

The committee's chairman Nguyen Van Cao said on Tuesday that the company that operated the industrial zone's waste water treatment system had failed to do the job properly, causing pollution throughout the zone.

Local environmental police found the company deliberately releasing untreated waste water into the environment last week.

The water treatment system was invested by the local authority and run by the company with the capacity of 4,000 cubic metres a day. So far, 90 per cent of enterprises in the IZ are connected to the system. — VNS
