Smuggler gets death for 3kg of drugs

HCM CITY — The HCM City People's Court yesterday sentenced a 23-year-old Thai woman, Preeyanooch Phutth-araksa, to death for carrying 3kg of drugs into Viet Nam last year.

She was arrested at HCM City's Tan Son Nhat Airport last October 29 after she was caught with methamphetamine in her baggage.

In the court she confessed to meeting a Nigerian man called Nalin in Bangkok in January 2011, and that he had persuaded her to become a drug mule.

She had since then twice brought in drugs before being arrested. — VNS
