HA NOI — Police caught a workshop engaged in the production of fake sportswear brands in southern Ha Noi yesterday.
Police and relevant officials found 500 fake Nike sportswear products and thousands of fake labels of Nike, Adidas and other well-known brands when they conducted a surprise inspection of a garment workshop in Kim Giang Ward, Hoang Mai District.
Police said they had set their eyes on the workshop for a long time before catching them red handed. Vu Duc Cuong, 34, from Thai Binh Province was the owner of the workshop, they said.
While Cuong was unable to produce an original registration certificate for his garment making operation, the lawyer representing Nike in Viet Nam confirmed that all the Nike products found at Cuong's workshop were fake.
Cuong admitted that he started making fake products in March 2011 after receiving customer orders. He also sold the fake clothes for the same price as legitimate products.
Police seized all of the workshop's equipment including a whole truckload of clothes and textiles, sewing machines and other tools. Police and market watch officials will complete the necessary procedures in this case according to appropriate laws. — VNS
