HA NOI – Hiau Yoon Kong, from Malaysia, and Vo Thanh Nga, from Viet Nam, were arrested for illegally transporting nine Vietnamese women to Malaysia from Tan Son Nhat International Airport, according to southern Bac Lieu Province police.
Initial investigations showed the women to be aged between 19 and 25 and originally from HCM City and southern Tay Ninh, Bac Lieu, Kien Giang and Tien Giang provinces.
The women asked Nga to help them travel to and find work in Malaysia.
In custody, Nga admitted to having organised five previous trips before his arrest. Each of these included three or four women who paid more than VND10 million ( US$ 476) per head.
In addition, Nga earned money from selling cosmetics to Vietnamese women already employed in Malaysia.
The arrests followed Bac Lieu police receiving a letter denouncing the men for their illegal activities.
The case remains under investigation. -- VNS
