HOA BINH – Police from northern Hoa Binh Province rescued a 6-year-old girl who was believed to have been kidnapped after a night-long siege at a hotel that saw officers use tear gas.

The child was freed this morning after 100 police officers took part in the operation at Anh Duong Hotel in Son La Province.

The kidnapping suspects include two men and a woman who took the child to the hotel in a bid to secure a ransom from the child's family. Police were alerted by locals about suspicious activity at the hotel after the suspected kidnappers arrived.

Police used tear-gas during the siege, and arrested Do Van Thuan, 27, while also confiscating a handgun. Another suspect who escaped from the hotel has since given himself up to police.

According to police, the kidnapping ring has 4 to 5 members and used a 7-seat Santafe with registration number 52Z-8181. The kidnappers also allegedly shot and injured a man in Son La Province. – VNS
