HA NOI — Four more people allegedly involved in a reactionary political organisation in the central coastal province of Phu Yen have been arrested, according to Major General Pham Van Hoa, director of the Phu Yen provincial police.
They were arrested for "abusing democracy and freedom to infringe upon the interests of the State and legitimate rights and interests of organisations and citizens."
They included Director of Quynh Long Company Ltd Vuong Tan Son in Hoa Quang Bac Commune, Phu Hoa District; Tran Phi Dung from Hoa My Dong Commune, Tay Hoa District; Doan Van Cu from Hoa Quang Nam Commune, Phu Hoa District and Tran Quan from Don Duong District, in the Central Highland province of Lam Dong.
The police also seized assets belonging to the organisation.
Hoa said that the organisation's leader, Phan Van Thu and his accomplices had confessed their intention to overthrow the people's administration to found a new country called Dai Nam Kinh Chau.
The reactionary political organisation was uncovered by the Phu Yen provincial police one week ago. Since then, Thu and eight others have been arrested.
It was reported that Thu had secretly developed the organisation in several cities and provinces between 2004 to 2011. It attracted more than 300 members, including overseas Vietnamese.
Thu (who also uses the name Tran Cong) and five others in his organisation were captured last week.—VNS
