11 on trial for trafficking 22kg of heroin

LAO CAI – The three-day trial of 11 people charged with trafficking and selling 22kg of heroin began in the Northern Lao Cai Province's People's Court yesterday.

Police allege the ring, including seven people from northern Dien Bien Province and four from Lao Cai Province, had been transporting the heroin from Laos to the two provinces since 2006.

The suspects were arrested in July last year and charged in May this year.

Police say the alleged traffickers all admitted receiving VND7 billion (US$340,000) for the drugs via post and banks. – VNS
