HÀ NỘI  General Secretary of the Communist Party of Việt Nam (CPV) Nguyễn Phú Trọng offered incense to commemorate late Party General Secretaries Lê Duẩn and Trường Chinh at their private residences on Wednesday, on the occasion of the 88th founding anniversary of the CPV (February 3) and Tết (Lunar New Year) festival.

General Secretary Trọng recalled great contributions of the late leaders to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation, and expressed his deep gratitude to the predecessors, who helped lay the foundation for the country.

He wished relatives of the late General Secretaries a new year of good health, happiness and success, and encouraged them to carry forward their family traditions to contribute more to the nation.

Lê Duẩn, real name Lê Văn Nhuận, was born on April 7, 1907 in Bích La Village, Triệu Đông Commune, the central province of Quảng Trị’s Triệu Phong District. He was the Party’s First Secretary and then the Party General Secretary from 1960 to 1986.

His leadership helped the Party successfully guide the people to carry out revolutionary missions in both the North and South of the country, contributing to the country’s victory in the resistance war against the US in 1975, as well as national construction and defence after that.

Trường Chinh, real name Đặng Xuân Khu, was born on February 9, 1907 in Hành Thiện Village, Xuân Hồng Commune, Xuân Trường District of the northern province of Nam Định.

He served as Party General Secretary three times and a Politburo member for more than 20 years.

It was him who realised the need for and initiated the Đổi mới (Renewal) process.

The late Party leader is also known as an outstanding political theorist, journalist, cultural researcher and poet, with many works on Marxism-Leninism and Hồ Chí Minh Thought, as well as the Party’s view on cultural issues, which laid the theoretical foundation for the building of a new Vietnamese culture.

Visit to PCC’s Office

When paying a Tết visit to the office on Tuesday (the 28th day of the last lunar month), Party chief Trọng hailed efforts made by the staff of the Party Central Committee’s Office to well serve Party activities.

He said that Việt Nam went through the year 2017 with a series of important events during which the country gained a lot of achievements.

These fruits were greatly contributed by the staff of the Party Central Committee’s Office, he affirmed.

On the occasion of the upcoming Lunar New Year festival, the Party chief wished all staff of the office and their families a new year of good health and prosperity, hoping they will fulfill all assigned tasks.

Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Chief of its office Nguyễn Văn Nên showed his determination to promote the tradition of the agency and draw specific measures to build a strong and transparent Party.

He also vowed to exert efforts to fulfill all tasks assigned.  VNS
