HÀ NỘI — Actively and proactively promoting a favourable environment for development and international integration is the main theme for the diplomatic sector this year, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Phạm Bình Minh.

Speaking at a meeting held in Hà Nội yesterday to review diplomatic tasks in 2017 and set out goals for 2018, Minh said the key task for this year was continuing to maintain a peaceful and stable environment and drawing on more outside resources to help promote sustainable development.

2018 is expected to continue witnessing complicated and unexpected developments in global and regional situations, and the diplomatic sector is urged to continue closely following tasks set by the 12th Party Congress while promoting its creativity to improve the efficiency of diplomatic activities, he noted.

Reviewing last year’s diplomatic activities, most participants agreed that 2017 was one of the most successful years for the diplomatic sector. The country’s relations with important partners developed deeply, sustainably and stably. Particularly, the successful organisation of the APEC Year 2017 highlighted the country’s diplomatic achievements.

The sector also recorded achievements in speeding up international integration and other fields relating to cultural diplomacy, the protection of citizens and overseas Vietnamese. — VNS
