HÀ NỘI — The Việt Nam Economic and Cultural Office (VECO) in Taipei, Taiwan, is coordinating with local agencies on the investigation into the shooting death of a Vietnamese citizen, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lê Thị Thu Hằng said on Thursday.

She was responding to reporters’ question about the death by gunshot of Nguyễn Quốc Phi, reportedly a migrant worker. She said Phi’s family had arrived in Taiwan and the Taipei-based office was coordinating with local agencies to assist the family in bringing the body home.

The VECO was informed of the incident on August 31 and immediately asked local agencies to promptly investigate, Hằng noted, adding that the office would protect the rights and legitimate interests of the deceased. — VNS
