HÀ NỘI — Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc toured a variety of pilot projects in the central province of Hà Tĩnh yesterday, praising their success and urging authorities to replicate these models to improve incomes and services.

Phúc visited a "model garden" at the home of the Dương Kim Hùng family in Tượng Sơn Commune, where in addition to a fishing pond, the family grows various types of vegetable and fruits using state-of-the-art automatic watering systems. The farming provides the family with an annual income of some VNĐ170 million (US$7,600).

The PM urged authorities in Thạch Hà District and Tượng Sơn Commune to replicate the model and expand its production scope in close association with market needs.

Visiting models of loan policy consulting team, organic agricultural production, and one-stop shop for administrative procedures in Tượng Sơn Commune, PM Phúc also applauded the effects of these models and called for the expansion of the models to help local residents develop household economies.

Home to six co-operatives, 21 co-operative groups, and four enterprises, the commune aims to build two model residential areas and 15 model gardens in 2017.

Last year, the commune mobilised over VNĐ21 billion ($930,000) to develop its socio-economic infrastructure system.

As one of the 26 communes recognised as new-style rural areas in Hà Tĩnh Province, Tượng Sơn strives to become a model rural commune in 2018.

As stipulated, a new-style rural area must satisfy 20 criteria including planning, facilitating transport and irrigation systems, power supply, schools, income per capita, low level of poverty and environmental protection.

As many as 86 communes, or 36 per cent of communes in Hà Tĩnh Province, have met the criteria.

PM Phúc also visited and presented gifts to war invalid Văn Ngọc Chung who fought in Quảng Trị Province’s battle field in 1968, and relatives of Heroic Mother Văn Thị Vượng – the mother of two martyrs in Tượng Sơn Commune. — VNS
