Defence Minister Ngô Xuân Lịch meets Thai senior officer

HÀ NỘI – Defence Minister General Ngô Xuân Lịch hosted a reception yesterday for Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence of Thailand General Chaichan Changmongkol in Hà Nội.

General Lịch acknowledged the comprehensive and effective defence and military co-operation between Việt Nam and Thailand, which contributed to strengthening friendship and mutual understanding between the two defence ministries.

He stressed that in the future, the two sides should increase comprehensive collaboration in various areas, including navy, joint sea patrol, safeguarding fishermen, exchanging experiences in managing and protecting the border as well as building borderlines of peace, friendship, co-operation and development.

The two sides should also strengthen friendship activities and exchanges of delegations at all levels to enable the armed services to share experiences.

For his part, General Changmongkol, who is leading a delegation to the first Việt Nam-Thailand defence policy dialogue, expressed his hope that in the future, the two sides will continue expanding exchanges of delegations as well as experience-sharing in personnel training, maritime security and other areas of shared interest.

On the same day, General Chaichan Changmongkol held talks with Deputy Defence Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyễn Chí Vịnh, during which both sides assessed the co-operation outcomes between the two armies over the past years and discussed future co-operation content, orientations and measures. — VNS
