HÀ NỘI – A writing contest, themed ‘The history of Việt Nam-Laos ties: A special relationship," was launched today, to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and Laos (September 5, 1962-September 5, 2017) and the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Lao-Vietnamese Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation (July 7, 1977-July 18, 2017).

Phạm Văn Linh, deputy head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communication and Education – the organiser of the contest -- said the activity aims to promote public awareness, especially amongst the younger generation, on the special friendship between Laos and Việt Nam in past fights against common enemies, the efforts to liberate their people, and now, in national development.

The contest aims to bring people of the two countries closer together and fight against hostile forces’ “deliberate efforts to twist history and undermine the special friendship between Việt Nam and Laos.”

The multi-answer test will be held weekly on the Việt Nam Communist Party Newspaper’s website and other media outlets, starting from May 2 to December 22, 2017.

The organising board will begin receiving contestants’ entries from October.

All Vietnamese and foreign citizens are eligible to enter the contest, regardless of age, social status or religion.

The award ceremony is expected to be held in December. – VNS
