HÀ NỘI – Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng yesterday expressed profound gratitude for Cambodia’s unstinting support to Việt Nam’s past struggles and present development.

At a reception held in Hà Nội for visiting Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen, he said the latter’s visit was a deep manifestation of bilateral relations.

The Party chief said the nation was grateful for the invaluable support that the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), Government and people have provided to Việt Nam during the struggles for national liberation and reunification as well as the current task of construction and development.

He requested Hun Sen to continue assisting Vietnamese nationals and enterprises in Cambodia, making it easier for them to lead stable lives and help foster the traditional friendship between the two nations.

In response, Hun Sen spoke highly of the outcomes of co-operation between the two Parties over the past years and thanked Việt Nam for providing immense, invaluable, pure, effective and timely support in saving Cambodians from genocide, preventing the return of the genocidal regime and  in promoting national development at present.

He also expressed his sympathies for losses recently suffered by residents in the central region.

Hun Sen asserted that no matter how the world situation changes, the ties between Cambodia and Việt Nam would remain unchangeable.

Consistent support

In his meeting with the Cambodian PM yesterday, President Trần Đại Quang reaffirmed Việt Nam’s consistent support for the CPP, the Royal Government, Hun Sen himself, and the Cambodian people.
Quang said he believed Hun Sen’s visit would be a strong driving force to fortify the long-standing friendship and neighbourliness between the two nations.
He wished the CPP and PM Hun Sen success in the upcoming election of deputies to the communal and district People’s Councils in 2017 and the National Assembly in 2018.
Hun Sen informed the President of the outcomes of his talks with PM Nguyễn Xuân Phúc.
As the two countries prepare for the 50th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties, Hun Sen stressed that the occasion was an opportunity for Việt Nam and Cambodia to raise public awareness of the importance of preserving and promoting the invaluable traditional ties, especially among young generations.

Parliamentary co-operation

National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân also hosted a reception for Hun Sen yesterday.

In talks with the visiting PM, she said the NA always attaches importance to and supports the enhancement of traditional friendship and comprehensive co-operation between the two countries.

She said the NA will work closely with the Cambodian NA and Senate to boost the expansion and efficiency of co-operation between the two legislatures at regional and international inter-parliamentary forums, and between the two governments and peoples.
She also highlighted the fruitful development of traditional friendship and comprehensive co-operation between the two countries in recent years, saying PM Hun Sen’s visit marked an important milestone in Việt Nam-Cambodia relations.
