NA chief arrives in UAE

National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân has arrived in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to attend the 11th Global Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament.

ABU DHABI – National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân has arrived in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to attend the 11th Global Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament which opened yesterday, featuring 50 female parliamentarians.
The visit was made at the invitation of President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Saber Chowdhury and President of the Federal National Council of the UAE Amal Al Qubaisi.
The Vietnamese delegation’s attendance at the summit demonstrates the country’s policy of gender equality and proactive international integration, while promoting the role of the National Assembly in regional and global parliamentary forums.

The Global Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament, which will conclude today, aims to promote female participation in politics and prevent violence against women and children.
Themed “United for Shaping the Future”, this year’s event will discuss the role of women parliament speakers in addressing challenges to progress and prosperity.
Speaking at the event, Amal Al Qubaisi said the event brings together leaders of parliaments, ministers, scientists in the private sector and community leaders.
She hailed top female legislators’ important role in shaping their future and protecting the interests of the people and future generations.
Al Qubaisi also called for joint action to address challenges involving protectionism and globalisation.
President of the IPU Saber Chowdhury recalled that the first summit of this kind was held in 2005 with 19 delegates taking part, adding that female parliamentarians contribute to policymaking to change the world.
He asked for thorough preparations to co-ordinate efforts on world challenges such as poverty reduction, anti-terrorism and other issues.
At the opening session, participants listened to a message of United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, and speeches delivered by UAE Deputy Prime Minister cum Minister of Interior Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Dr. Ahmed El-Tayeb, which highlighted the role of women in the world’s people-elected bodies in improving people’s lives, promoting fairness and issuing policies for sustainable development.
