VN Party chief visits Laos’ Bolikhamsai province

Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng visited the central Laos province of Bolikhamsai which borders Việt Nam’s Nghệ An and Hà Tĩnh central provinces on Saturday.

VIENTIANE – Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng visited the central Laos province of Bolikhamsai which borders Việt Nam’s Nghệ An and Hà Tĩnh central provinces on Saturday.
According to Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Governor of Bolikhamsai, Kongkeo Saysongkham, the province recorded a GDP growth of 8 per cent with per capita income of $41,900 per annum. In 2016, the province had 225 licensed investment projects worth 130 billion kip ($16 million) in total.

Currently, Bolikhamsai has set up partnerships with Nghệ An, Hà Tĩnh, Đà Nẵng and a number of other localities of Việt Nam.

Sixteen Vietnamese firms are investing in Bolikhamsai, mostly in mining, restaurants, hotels and agricultural product processing.
Party General Secretary Trọng said he hoped Bolikhamsai and Vietnamese localities, especially those along the shared border, would strengthen co-operation and mutual support in all fields, contributing to the development of Việt Nam-Laos relations.
He announced the construction of a high school as a present to Bolikhamsai. He also took part in a thread tightening ceremony, a traditional practice in Laos to pray for peace and prosperity.
