HÀ NỘI — General Secretary of the Communist Party of Việt Nam Nguyễn Phú Trọng will visit Laos from Thursday to Saturday.

The visit is at the invitation of Party General Secretary and President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Laos Bounnhang Volachith.

This is the first trip abroad for the Vietnamese Party leader since the 12th National Party Congress held early this year.

Also, Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc leads a Vietnamese delegation to the 9th Summit on Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam (CLV) Development Triangle Area which takes place today in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

The visit comes after an invitation from his Cambodian counterpart, Prime Minister Hun Sen, according to Việt Nam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The CLV Development Triangle Area established by the countries’ Prime Ministers in 1999 covers four Cambodian provinces (Ratanakiri, Stung Treng, Mondulkiri, Kratie), four Lao provinces (Attapeu, Salavan, Sekong, and Champasak), and five Vietnamese provinces (Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Đắk Lắk, Đắk Nông, and Bình Phước). — VNS
