HA NOI (VNS) — President Truong Tan Sang called for more efforts to attain new achievements in nation-building and defence in his message delivered in the first moments of the Lunar New Year today.

The president extended warm greetings to the Vietnamese people in and outside the country, as well as foreigners working and living in Viet Nam on the occasion of Tet (Lunar New Year).

He also extended friendly sentiments from Viet Nam to its international friends.

He said the whole country had united to overcome several difficulties and challenges in 2015, to gain remarkable socio-economic and cultural attainments, and defend independence and national territorial sovereignty.

These united efforts had helped maintain a stable and peaceful domestic environment and speed up international integration, enabling the country to enter the next phase of development with bright prospects, he said.

He said the course of globalisation and ongoing international integration would offer new challenges and opportunities.

The country still had a lot to do in order to progress and protect its citizens, as done by previous generations, for a better future, the president said.

He called on Vietnamese people to press ahead and promote their brainpower, strength, cultural traditions and patriotism, besides their unyielding spirit to seize upcoming opportunities and surmount all hurdles. This will help them to move toward prosperity, democracy, justice and civilisation.
