HA NOI (VNS) — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh expressed his hope that the partnership and comprehensive co-operation between Viet Nam and the EU will be deepened in a more pragmatic and effective manner going forward.

The official made the remarks at a reception for newly-accredited Ambassador and head of the EU Delegation to Viet Nam Bruno Angelet yesterday in Ha Noi.

The host noted his delight at the fruitful developments in Viet Nam-EU relations, especially the signing of a joint statement declaring the end of negotiations of the Viet Nam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).

He expressed his appreciation that the EU regards Viet Nam as a prioritised partner in its development co-operation policy, and also thanked the union's support for the country's poverty reduction, socio-economic development and international integration.

Deputy Prime Minister Minh called for the Ambassador's efforts to urge the EU to ratify the Viet Nam- EU Partnership and Co-operation Agreement in 2016, aid Viet Nam in actualising the document, sign the EVFTA at an early date and recognise Viet Nam's market economy status when the agreement takes effect.

He suggested that the EU assist the two sides' businesses in taking advantage of opportunities afforded by the EVFTA and coordinate efforts with Viet Nam to deploy joint development co-operation projects.

Ambassador Angelet said that the EU increasingly treasured Viet Nam in its foreign policy and wished that the country, with its position and role in the region, would back the EU in increasing its presence in Asia-Pacific and enhancing relations with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). — VNS
