HA NOI (VNS) — Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong hosted a reception for Lao Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Thongloun Sisoulith in Ha Noi yesterday.
The Lao official, who is on a working visit to Viet Nam, rejoiced at the thriving all-round co-operation between the two countries and thanked the Vietnamese Party, State and people for providing enormous assistance to his nation.
He briefed the host on the outcome of the second consultation meeting between the countries' foreign ministers as well as the two ministries' collaboration.
He also informed about the recent situation in Laos, including all-level congresses on the threshold of the 10th National Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, and preparations for the formation of the ASEAN Community in late 2015 and Laos's ASEAN Chairmanship next year.
Thongloun Sisoulith emphasised that Laos will closely co-ordinate with Viet Nam to implement agreements reached by the countries' leaders as well as benefits for the two peoples.
At the reception, Party General Secretary Trong congratulated Laos on its massive internal and external achievements and voiced his belief that the Lao people will reap greater accomplishments.
He expressed his delight at the growing bilateral relations in all spheres while acknowledging Laos's support to Viet Nam throughout history.
Viet Nam will join its neighbour in intensifying their special solidarity in all aspects, ultimately contributing to regional and global peace, stability, co-operation and development, he affirmed.
The leader also spoke highly of the coordination between the two Governments and efforts by the two sides' ministries, sectors and localities, including the ministries of Foreign Affairs, in effectively carrying out reached agreements.
He added that he hopes the foreign ministries will continue close coordination, information and experience sharing, and mutual assistance.
PM, Laos DPM meeting
In a meeting yesterday with the Lao Deputy Prime Minister, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said Viet Nam and Laos should continue to prioritise economic, trade and investment ties.
The two leaders spoke highly of the outcome of the foreign ministers' meeting on Tuesday, saying that both countries should work closely together to prepare for a meeting between the two Politburos and follow it up with a government meeting to execute the action plans reached.
The Vietnamese Government was encouraging domestic firms to expand their operations in Laos, the PM said, adding that Viet Nam also welcomed businesses from Laos.
PM Dung also said the two countries should work together at the 27th ASEAN Summit and related meetings to be held in Malaysia, as well as for a united and prosperous ASEAN Community.
Viet Nam would support Laos in its role as ASEAN Chair, the PM said.
The Lao Deputy PM committed to deepen his country's special ties with Viet Nam, including clearing obstacles blocking economic collaboration.
He also hoped that Viet Nam would continue to assist Laos by sharing its development experience. — VNS
