HA NOI (VNS) — Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc received Neville Rolfe, visiting Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the United Kingdom's Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and Minister for Intellectual Property, in Ha Noi yesterday.
Phuc voiced his delight at the vigorous growth of the strategic partnership between the two nations, which provides a favourable foundation for them to expand connections across the board.
The Deputy PM emphasised that the United Kingdom (UK) was one of the critical economic partners of Viet Nam, and his country pledged the best possible conditions for British companies, and effective and long-term operations for investors here.
The official also pinned his hopes on the Viet Nam-European Union Free Trade Agreement which will boost economic links between the two sides, and between the Southeast Asian and the UK specifically, once it takes effect.
Phuc applauded the signing of a memorandum of understanding on the Newton Programme in Viet Nam between the British Council and the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology, adding that the move would help both sides intensify research partnerships.
He suggested further collaboration in the protection of intellectual property (IP) rights and enforcement as well as facilitating joint projects between their universities and research centres.
Neville Rolfe said her delegation had a working session with several Vietnamese ministries and sectors to bolster collaboration in science and technology, prevention of counterfeit goods, and consumer protection.
She also highlighted the UK's willingness to co-operate and share experiences with Viet Nam in enhancing the IP rights protection capacity and developing education and training. — VNS
