TOKYO (VNS) — National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan joined nearly 150 delegates from 40 countries in the World Assembly for Women (WAW), which opened in Tokyo, Japan yesterday.

Speaking at the event, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe highlighted his country's achievements in women's development over the last two decades, citing a 30-per-cent increase in the number of women holding managerial positions in the country as an example.

He underlined the important role played by women in society and called for stronger involvement from women in various fields, as well as more international efforts to include them.

Participating delegates presented reports and gave opinions related to women's education and support to female Asian entrepreneurs.

On the second working day, delegates will discuss the topic in groups, focusing on issues such as women and economy, global issues for women, women's empowerment and women in the natural sciences. . — VNS
