HA NOI (VNS) — Viet Nam and China held their fifth strategic defence dialogue in Ha Noi yesterday, aiming to narrow differences and create strategic trust between their armies and peoples.
Deputy Defence Minister, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, and Deputy Chief of the General Staff of China's People's Liberation Army, Sun Jianguo, co-chaired the event.
Both discussed developments in their countries, the region and the world, especially issues related to national defence and security.
They reviewed the outcomes of their defence co-operation since the fourth dialogue, and discussed steps to deepen ties and friendly relations.
Minister of Defence Phung Quang Thanh on the same day met the Chinese's delegation.
Applauding the results of the dialogue, Thanh said it was of great importance in developing relations between the two countries's armies and people in the direction set by leaders of both sides.
He believed this visit would open new co-operation opportunities in national defence area between the two countries.
Thanh added that Viet Nam treasured the good partnership and comprehensive co-operation relation with China.
Sun Jianguo replied that China stood on the same ground, saying that it always highly appreciated neighbourly relations with Viet Nam.
The Chinese delegation is scheduled to visit several units of the Viet Nam People's Army in the next week. — VNS
