MAPUTO (VNS) — Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai and his entourage began a three-day Mozambique visit yesterday, at the invitation of that country's Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosario.
On the first day of the visit, the Vietnamese delegation laid a wreath at the statue of Samora Machel, the first President of Mozambique after it gained independence.
After visiting a boulevard named after late Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh in central Maputo, the delegation met the staff of the Vietnamese Embassy, during which Ambassador Nguyen Van Trung reported on the development of bilateral economic and trade ties.
The deputy PM was also briefed on the work of Vietnamese experts in education, health and agriculture, who are currently working in the country under bilateral co-operation pacts.
Agreeing with Ambassador Trung, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai said the Viet Nam-Mozambique ties had progressed, but still fell short of potential, thus requiring greater stimulation for bilateral commercial co-operation. — VNS
