SIEM REAP (VNS) — Viet Nam and Cambodia yesterday agreed on measures to further strengthen border control co-operation.

At a high-ranking meeting held in Siem Reap, Cambodia, Lieutenant General Vo Trong Viet, Commander of the Viet Nam Border Guard, and General Sok Phal, Head of the Cambodian Interior Ministry's immigration department, reviewed implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2014.

They also assessed immigration control and security in border areas and border gates between the two countries.

They agreed that implementing co-operation activities has built trust, mutual understanding and solidarity among forces working in border areas on both sides.

They pledged to increase co-operation and solve border issues on the principles of solidarity, friendship and respect for each other's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

They will enhance co-ordination to ensure a peaceful, friendly and stable border between the two countries, delivering mutual growth and other benefits, the officials said.

During the July 12-18 visit to Cambodia, the Vietnamese delegation will also meet with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sar Kheng. — VNS
