HA NOI (VNS) — Laos and Viet Nam should continue to step up public awareness campaigns to strengthen the special solidarity and traditional friendship between the Parties and peoples of both nations, a senior Lao Party official said yesterday.

In a meeting with Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in Ha Noi, Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune, Head of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP)'s Commission for Propaganda and Training and President of the Lao National Council for Social Sciences, also called for increased information exchanges and research collaboration.

He briefed Trong on the outcomes of co-operation between the Lao commission and council with the Vietnamese Party Central Committee's Commission for Publicity and Education and the Central Theoretical Council.

He said a theoretical conference held yesterday had helped the Lao delegation understand more about Party leadership, Party-building work and socio-economic development in a socialist-oriented market economy.

General Secretary Trong expressed his belief that the Party, State and people of Laos would record more achievements in the future, including the successful organising of Party congresses and the 10th National Party Congress early next year.

He hoped the two commissions and councils would continue to work closely together and clarify issues regarding either nation's renewal process.

Also yesterday, the Lao visitor held a working session with Politburo member and Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for Publicity and Education, Dinh The Huynh. They discussed measures to realise co-operation agreements between the two commissions and councils. — VNS
