THAI NGUYEN (VNS) — President Truong Tan Sang made a fact-finding tour to the northern province of Thai Nguyen yesterday to examine the local social-economic situation.

Sang commended the province for building trade marks for local farm produce, adding that Thai Nguyen should seize the chances offered by the increasing flow of investment into agriculture.

The President also praised local efforts in land management, environmental pollution mitigation, and investment attraction.

He said Thai Nguyen, which was the main revolutionary base during the resistance war, was in a position to promote tourism and develop a major education-training centre in the northern region.

The provincial authorities proposed that the Government assist the province in infrastructure, particularly transport, to help it grow into an economic hub.

The State leader inspected the progress of an investment project by Samsung group in Thai Nguyen. The factory employs 57,000 workers and produced more than 10 million mobile-phone parts in the first six months of the year, earning US$6.2 billion from exports.

President Sang presented the Friendship Order to the CEO of the Samsung Electronics Viet Nam Thai Nguyen (SEVT) Yoo Young Bok in recognition of his contributions to the friendship between Viet Nam and the Republic of Korea.

National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung yesterday advised Ky Anh Town in Ha Tinh Province to focus on vocational training and job creation to meet its socio-economic development needs.

Meeting with the town's voters, he also said local development plans should give priority to setting up the "newstyle" rural areas that meet all the criteria set by the central Government.

He told voters that building the new rural areas would help increase local incomes and secure livelihoods.

Responding to voters' questions about national security, he said the Party, State and people were determined to protect national sovereignty and maintain peace.

"As an active and responsible member of the United Nations, Viet Nam continually wishes to expand its relations with other countries around the world for the purpose of maintaining peace in the nation, region and world," he said.

Referring to the recently-finished ninth session of the 13th National Assembly, he said that the legislature prioritised the task of improving the legal system and align it with the 2013 Constitution.

He expressed his hope that voters in Ky Anh would join their brethren nationwide in contributing their opinions and proposals on revisions that are being considered towards boosting efficiency of their application in daily life.

Ky Anh Town has risen to become one of the key economic centres of the province and the northern central region.

Local voters requested the nation's top legislator to facilitate faster construction of infrastructure development projects, especially those involving transportation around the Vung Ang Economic Zone.

They also wanted the National Assembly to pay attention to policies that serve marine economy development and support fishermen. They also wanted stronger focus on Climate Change adaptation measures. — VNS
