HAI PHONG (VNS) — Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung yesterday met with voters from Thuy Nguyen District in Hai Phong and briefed them on the results of the recently concluded 9th session of the National Assembly.
During the meeting, voters expressed their appreciation for the Government's determination to stabilise the macro-economy while successfully controlling inflation to improve the capacity, efficiency and competitiveness of the economy and people's living conditions.
Dung talked about the challenges and successes the country has encountered in the course of socio-economic development over the past five years.
"The country has faced many difficulties and challenges, including the negative impacts caused by the global crisis and economic stagnation," Dung said.
Dung said under the leadership of the Party Central Committee and efforts made by the whole political system, the people and the army, and support from the international community, Viet Nam's socio-economic from 2011-2015 had made significant progress. National security and law and order had been maintained, while national independence and territorial integrity had been safely protected.
Referring to important tasks for the immediate future, PM Dung laid emphasis on ensuring high and efficient socio-economic development on the basis of stabile macro-economic development.
"Restructuring the national economy to make it more effective must go hand in hand with developing social security, social benefits, healthcare, culture and education," said Dung.
"National construction and defence are two strategic tasks for the nation with economic development at their core. Party building is also pivotal to national defence and security," Dung said.
Addressing rural development, the PM said that a strategic programme adopted by the Party and Government had enjoyed widespread support from people across the country.
He reiterated the Party and State's determination to mobilise all resources to ensure the programme would be implemented successfully.
"We'll provide favourable conditions for enterprises to invest in socio-economic infrastructure development as well as production and business development in rural areas," Dung said.
He also promised to do his utmost to provide the best conditions for fishermen and aqua-culture enterprises.
"This is a good way of promoting economic development and improving living conditions while defending our territorial integrity," Dung added.
The situation in the East Sea remained very complicated, but Viet Nam was determined to pursue appropriate measures in line with international law and practices in order to defend its independence and territorial integrity.
Dung expressed his hope that Hai Phong would become an industrial and service centre with a high growth rate and strong development for the region and the country as a whole. — VNS
