WASINGTON D.C  (VNS) – Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and his entourage arrived at the Andrews military airport in Washington D.C yesterday, starting an official visit to the US.

The Party chief was welcomed at the airport by representatives of the US government, Vietnamese Ambassador Pham Quang Vinh and a crowd of Vietnamese people living in the US, as well as diplomats from ASEAN countries in the US.

This is the first time that a General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam is visiting the US, and the landmark visit takes place at an important time, as Viet Nam and the US mark the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

The top leaders of both countries will discuss orientations for further developing bilateral relations in the future. They will discuss ways to deepen the Viet Nam-US comprehensive partnership, focusing on investment, trade expansion and facilitation, education and training, science and technology and defence and security. — VNS
